I am pleased to announce that Jennifer Rimmer will become the new District Principal of St. Mary’s Catholic School for Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools.
Jennifer joined our District in May 2008, starting work at St. Kateri Catholic School before transferring to St. Joseph Catholic High School in the fall. In 2010, Jennifer was appointed as Assistant Principal of St. Joseph School, acting also as the Head of the Science Department. In her five years at the high school, Jennifer worked diligently with teachers and fellow administrators to develop the initial Grade 9 Families programming in the 2012-2013 school year. Jennifer was transferred in 2013 to St. Mary’s Catholic School in Sexsmith, where she has filled the role of Assistant Principal for the past four years. In addition to her role as Assistant Principal of St. Mary’s School, Jennifer was also the high school guidance counselor, RAP/Dual Credit/Work Experience Coordinator, and Classroom Support Teacher for two years.
Prior to joining our District, Jennifer graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta’s Teacher Education North program in Grande Prairie in 2008. Currently, Jennifer is completing her Master of Science Education in Teacher Leadership with Walden University.
Jennifer has always shown a strong commitment and passion for her students and their education. In her time at St. Joseph School, Jennifer was part of the Alberta Assessment Consortium as an Assessment Specialist and was part of the Gifted and Excellence Education Steering Committee. Jennifer has also been enthusiastically involved in the high school redesign process since its inception in 2010, supporting many initiatives and working hard to implement best practices in the ever-changing world of high school program delivery.
Jennifer has also led and taken part in several community initiatives and organizations. She has been a part of numerous community organizations over the past 20 years, including 10 years of service on the board for the Pregnant and Parenting Teens Program, serving 6 of those years as the board chair. Jennifer was the visionary for the development of the Lion’s Learning Centre in Grande Prairie, which led her to initiate a relationship between the Pregnant and Parenting Teens Program and the Lions Club that led to years of fundraising and the eventual construction of the multi-use community facility.
Further community initiatives Jennifer has led include the development of a Vinyl Café event at St. Mary’s School. This event, inspired by Stuart McLean’s Vinyl Café radio show, promoted literacy within the school and community while also raising $20,000 for local families in need. Jennifer has also taken part in assisting the growth of the Destination Imagination initiative in Grande Prairie. She joined the initial board for the organization and assisted in the planning of local tournaments for the past seven years. In addition to this, Jennifer has also led winning teams to the Destination Imagination Global Competition twice.
"We are very pleased that Jennifer will be on our Principal team, and we look forward to many great years of working together,” stated Superintendent Karl Germann.
Jennifer will begin her new position as Principal of St. Mary’s Catholic School in March. A competition is currently underway to recruit a new Assistant Principal for St. Mary’s School.
