I am pleased to announce that Robert Simard will become the new Assistant District Principal of École St. Gerard for Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools.

Having earned his Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta Faculté Saint-Jean in 1998, Robert joined our District the following year and has been a part of our community ever since. For his first assignment, Robert taught Junior High Math, French, and Religion for nine years and one year of Grade 6 at Holy Cross Catholic School. When Mother Teresa Catholic School opened in 2009, he went to the newly opened school to teach Grade 5, a position he has now held for eight years.

As an educator, Robert’s goal is to inspire students to love learning. He seeks to build strong relationships with his fellow staff and students, starting each day outside his classroom door, greeting each and every person who walks by. Through working with the District’s Differentiated Instruction team, Robert has gained an excellent insight into how to meet the learning needs of each student. He is also a member of the Leadership Academy, where he has further developed his knowledge and abilities as an educator and a school leader. Since 2001, Robert has also been the Treasurer for Grande Prairie and District Catholic Teachers’ Local 42, and has been the Alberta Teachers’ Association Retirement Consultant for the North West Area since 2011.

“We are pleased to have Robert become a part of our administrative team,” stated Superintendent Karl Germann. “We look forward to seeing him bring his knowledge and expertise into his new role.”

Robert will begin his new position as Assistant Principal of École St. Gerard in August 2017.
