Laura Tapson

Education Leadership - Supervisor of Faith Life and FNMI Learning

I have been married to my wonderful husband Rob for almost ten years and we have four great kids (the acronym of their names spell math, can you guess what they are?).

I have lived in Grande Prairie for 12 years. I am originally from Paddle Prairie; it is a Metis Settlement four hours north of Grande Prairie. I moved to Grande Prairie for post-secondary education, I graduated from University in 2007. I have continued to take classes at the college and completed a certificate program in Theology with Newman College in 2010.

I am a member of the St. Joseph Parish here in Grande Prairie. I love being a member of this community, my faith is very important to me and it's great to have so many people to share it with. My faith and teaching are two in one, I feel so blessed to be able to teach in a Catholic school where I get to share my faith with my students daily.

I started teaching in the spring of 2008 and have loved it ever since. It is a profession that encourages continuous learning and offers unique experiences. I had the privilege of having one of these unique experiences when I was a recipient of an Excellence in teaching award for the province of Alberta. It was a wonderful honor and I met many amazing teachers.

Once again teaching is an amazing profession, the following quotes are two of my favorites about teaching, I hope you enjoy them and I look forward to seeing you at school!

"I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think." - Socrates

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.- Benjamin Franklin
